The Panhandle Geological Society was organized April 26, 1926. Certain persons in the Texas Panhandle and surrounding areas engaged in geology and the petroleum industry joined themselves together in a non-profit, educational organization in order to facilitate a freer exchange of ideas and to promote a greater feeling of friendship among the members of the geological community.  Since that time the membership has grown to include engineers, landmen, attorneys, and anyone with an interest in geology. 

Panhandle Geological Society, being a member of the Mid-Continent Section, is an affiliate society of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG).  PGS members are highly encouraged to also be members of AAPG as membership offers numerous benefits.

PGS offers scholarships to local university students majoring in the field of geology.  Please contact us if you or someone you know might qualify for this opportunity.
